Installing GoldPiecesd on Ubuntu 16.04

By | September 17, 2017

Hey guys, hope everyone is having a great week. Here is an article on how to install a headless (No-GUI) wallet on Ubuntu. This is a great way to setup a VPS where you can store your coins and stake without having to have the wallet running on your desktop computer 24/7, and a must for having real-time transactions possible in your game for developers.

Once you have your VPS installed, and you are logged into your account, run the following commands to get the required libraries.

sudo apt update

sudo apt-get -y install git build-essential libssl-dev libdb-dev libdb++-dev libboost-all-dev libqrencode-dev miniupnpc libminiupnpc-dev

Now we can grab the GoldPieces source to be compiled using git like so:

git clone https://github.com/palmd/GoldPieces.git

Now navigate to the source folder like so:

cd GoldPieces/src

And run the installation file,

make -f makefile.unix

Upon completion, GoldPiecesd will be an executable binary in your src folder, and we just need to create the configuration file.

sudo nano ../../.GoldPieces/GoldPieces.conf

In the nano editor, paste the following and be sure to edit your username and password.

server=1
daemon=1
listen=1
maxconnections=1024
rpcuser=USER
rpcpassword=PASSWORD
rpcport=23461
addnode=76.169.57.92

addnode=78.52.170.170
addnode=51.254.45.117
addnode=116.27.144.66

Now simply start the GoldPieces daemon by typing the following:

./GoldPiecesd

You can make sure its working by typing

./GoldPiecesd getinfo

Which will output something like this:

Note, you should install the wallet as a user on your system for a production enviornment, this was installed under root on a dev machine as it’s just a temporary installation on a development machine. Cheers!
